Local Music

The Philadelphia area as a whole is a great place to be if you like music. A mix of home-grown and frequently visiting talent help to make music fans happy to live in the region. However, finding unique artists that perform in the area is often a hit-or-miss proposition. So many either sound like each other, seem to be a copy of popular bands, or just don't seem to care about true music fans. The Internet has helped immensely because you can now research a group before you see them but there are limitations. Listening to their songs or looking at their style online gives a good indication of what you're going to get but there is nothing like word-of-mouth from true music fans who have seen them in person. I'll do what I can to help narrow the field. This section is devoted to showcasing the artists and venues I have encountered. I also give my recommendations of which I feel are the best to see and go to. Of course, I am not afraid to mention which are my favorites. These are my sole opinions and if you are interested in any of these aritsts, check them out for yourself.

Personal Connections

For a while now, the music hasn't been the only reason I go to local concerts. Another that might even be more important, since I can see the same songs performed many times, is sharing the experiences with people that I care about: the performers themselves, other friends of the performers, or other music fans. With them, I will never be there by myself.

Currently, I have a rotation of six artists that I am friends with and try to see each play regularly. I keep track of each one's upcoming schedule and fit them with mine based on location and how long ago I last saw them. Luckily, there have only been a few conflicts so far. I have been following these artists, getting to know them and the people behind them, supporting them and being there for them long after the show is over. They have introduced me to other artists that they know and have performed with as well as new venues. They are:
