Street Road Bar and Grille - 3/4/06

The Street Road Stiff

Normally it would be a big deal if Dave Devlin had a show with both Frank and Greg's regular bands (the Spins and the Trilobites respectively) and that a bunch of friends of each of the guys were there. On this night, though, it didn't feel quite right. Maybe it was the fact that none of their shows there could measure up to the last one. Or that I had other things on my mind. Either way, I definitely wasn't getting the right vibe from the regulars in the crowd. Every other show there they were really good; I guess their love affair with Dave is over (and so is mine with this venue). Someone even told him he was too loud - his response was a blistering guitar solo. Not to say that the show wasn't great, it was. I grabbed Greg's tambourine and played along just off-stage for the beginning and end of Dave's set. For the other groups' part, the Trilobites were interesting and the Spins came through again, entertaining with their odd choice of covers. The bar's organizer still likes having Dave Devlin and Friends but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't play there again for awhile.
