John and Peter's - 3/10/06The Best (And Worst) Of Both WorldsDave Devlin and Mouth Of Wilson finally played together again at John and Peter's but maybe for the last time. The crowd warmed up with Tim Butler's pleasing acoustic rock and a few songs from Dan Gober. It was then time for me to see Dave Devlin unleash the power of his new band for the first time there. Chris from Mouth Of Wilson requested that the set end with "California ," a classic Devlin track from his first album. MOW was next up; it was nice to see them without having the pressure of writing the set list. I was the only one dancing around during the set but so what, I love their stuff. For an encore, they treated the crowd to a new song off of their long-awaited album. So what was wrong with all that? An old scourge of John and Peter's came back during the show big time; the sound was horrible, leaving both acts wanting to hire a sound guy. Where was Mike Kianka when we needed him? Still, it was John and Peter's after all and we had plenty of fun; I loved the fact that the MOW crew finally got to see Dave with his band.
