Philly Rock Idol

Philly Rock Idol was a contest on local station WMMR between Philly area bands. Over a month or so, callers to the morning show "The Philly Guys" whittled down the field to the top three bands after hearing one song from each of them. Best out of five callers saying "leaving" or "staying" determined which bands moved on. Finally, the finalists played three-song sets at the Manayunk Brew Pub for judges and the audience to determine the winner. I wasn't into any of the bands but the event was fun and did prepare me for more such contests in the future. And one more thing: MMR does rock!

Gypsy Sullivan was the first to perform.

Between acts, Mike Missenilli, Vinnie The Crumb (who both used to be on the station) and Pierre Robert of WMMR came out to read annoucements. I got to meet Pierre and he is as crazy as he sounds but a very nice guy. Can't say the same for Missenilli.
LOH was next. Too bad the smoke machine started up.

Jealous Type was the last group to perform.
Look at all the fans! Looks like they had the best promotion.
They had the first keyboardist I ever saw live.
They rocked out for sure.

Your winner: Jealous Type!
