Saying Hello To My Funky Friends

Being that it was long past time to reconnect with my funky side, I checked out Blue Sinatra's first I-95 Live show at Abilene. It was nice to see P.I.C. back in Philly once again bringing the funk and rap, managing to squeeze onto the cramped stage. Next, the host came on for the main celebration of the evening. I had my first experience with their new horn section, which is well on their way to learning the Blue ways. Many of their songs have added horn arrangements and none of them seemed tacked on. Trumpet player Crystal also displayed their vocal skills on the Fugees' "Ready or Not" featuring a spirited duet with the King Of Rhyme. London from London File also came up and freestyled during the set. Since the theme was New Year's Eve, they stopped the show before midnight for the requisite countdown, "Auld Lang Syne" rendition and confetti, noisemaker and popper tossing (the next day I was still finding confetti in interesting places). The audience was also unexpectedly showered from a container of beer which helped the confetti to stick. Finally, London File finished the night with an interesting funk/rock fusion.

Crystal can sing pretty well, too.
