North Star Bar - 5/13/05

A Lucky Friday The 13th

The short legacy of Mouth Of Wilson was enhanced with their victory in the second round of the Emergenza Festival at the North Star Bar, which led to their upcoming appearance at the regional finals to be held at the Theater of Living Arts. What made it remarkable was that they were most the most unique band there with varied competition including "death" metal and hard rock groups. With my experience with music contests, it was nice to be able to root for a band that I already knew. As with the Philly Rock Idol contest last year, the final band won the contest but the votes for each band were counted after their performance. MOW brought a bus full of friends and fans from Trenton for the show which did much to help their cause. Also, the fact they performed last gave them an advantage since it gave fans more time to arrive at the North Star and there was no hurry to leave. During their set, MOW encouraged the crowd to swarm around the stage so that it would be easier for organizers to take votes. There was confusion over what actually meant a vote for a band. Whichever counted more, the lenght and volume of cheering or the number of hands raised, there was little doubt that MOW would be the winner. It was amazing to see the support for the band, even more to join in the cheers and chants. But the easy part was over, because judges will decide who wins at the TLA and travels to Boston for the U.S. finals. That means that MOW needs to practice hard and come through with their best performance yet.

I forgot to bring my camera to this show (can you believe that?) but photos can be found at:
