Grape Street - 2/25/05The Project Takes The GrapeHave heard so much about Grape Street, it was time to return to Manayunk. Saw the stage, lights, huge control board, all the polish, but wondered about the product and even if taking pictures was frowned upon. Stang and Syd put in solid sets, Pawnshop Roses got the largest crowd with their channeling of early Stones, multi-talented frontman and triple-guitar threat, but Jealousy Curve stole the show with its unlikely soulful rock. Each member came on stage separately, but no singer, a second drummer instead. But they then stepped in front of their kit, picked up a guitar and started to sing. Add the emotion and a rousing cover of "Purple Rain", and the Grape began to resemble favorite venues. In the end, the connection was the same. Will be coming back.
