Finn McCool's - 11/25/05

Finns Is Cool

It was exciting to go to a new local venue, Finn McCool's, because the Pheromones were playing there, along with JAB. They had a full-length set, playing every song they had plus a new one or two. You really can't say exactly what the band plays with a mix of bitter breakup, sensitive soulful, and just plain fun songs. The best you can come up with is they are a true garage band. New bassist Pat brought the funk and played on a bunch of the songs after only practicing with the band for a week or two. More people came as the set went on including more of their friends, Myspace and otherwise. Jessica's boyfriend Donny encouraged some "arrrs" from the crowd, obviously inspired by the pirate show. That seems to never go away, I can speak from experience. Then JAB came up, fronted by the Pheromones' old bassist Jack. He led the group into odder, and dirtier, songs and covers which really got the dancing started. It was incredible how many people showed up to see them. I can't say they are a great band, but this night demonstrated that it's not always the most important thing.

What a great way to find out that Pat was wearing a jacket with reflective stripes.
Pat didn't know all the songs yet so he handed the bass to Brian a few times.
Finally it was time to take off the jackets and stay awhile.
