Grape Street - 10/22/05What Grape Street Can Do For YouI came to Grape Street this night for Blue Sinatra's Live I-95 show but it was upstaged by the Leela James experience. I came late to the sermon by James but saw the performance room filled by a more urban crowd, so I waited around with the other bands. James is a Vh1 Artist On The Rise, but it was more interesting to watch live footage from a camera person piped onto the monitors. She did a lot of talking near the end the set but did make good points about the current state of R&B music. I wondered when she would be finished, it ended up being a half-hour later than I thought. Finally the Live I-95 show would begin proper but not without another delay; missing equipment made Blue Sinatra's keyboard useless so the house rig had to be fetched. While waiting the audience watched an unusual mix of music videos that don't normally play at Grape Street , including one of Clay Aiken's(!) To start the set with a twist Kyle played the keyboard while the King Of Rhyme appeared in the audience. It was another solid show, but no guest musicians and nothing was tossed (or floated) into the crowd. The band got on the down-low towards the end with only the hard-core fans following their lead. They got to finish with the crowd-favorite Unicron this time. Then it was time for Case Of The Mondays. Once again their horn section was all over the stage. They even lined up with the bassist and guitarist and pretended to strum their instruments; a variation of a classic hard rock routine. Kyle and Adam joined in for one song, doubling the airpower, with the King Of Rhyme on cowbell. Their set was short, allowing for plenty of time for the main event - the Blue Method back on stage after a short hiatus. I had heard much about the multi-ethnic soul group. They were also filming the performance for a DVD. I respected them and their great talents but decided to stand back and follow the footage which was also shown on the monitors, a great service provided by the Grape.
